HydroQ, a company dedicated to providing water supply to rural areas in Sarawak, sought to expand its operations with a move to a larger, more efficient workspace. Their previous office was located just across from mine, and after being impressed by the functionality, aesthetics, and seamless flow of my own office design, they entrusted me with creating a custom concept for their new headquarters in the Gala area.
While drawing inspiration from their brand identity, I also took a fresh approach—ensuring that the new office space reflected HydroQ’s mission, values, and dynamic work culture.
Concept & Design Approach
The office was designed to balance professionalism, efficiency, and an inviting atmosphere, making it a space where employees feel inspired to collaborate and innovate.
- A Strong Brand Presence
- The black and orange color scheme reflects HydroQ’s bold and energetic identity.
- The strategic use of orange injects vibrancy and movement into the space, while muted tones of white and grey ensure a sophisticated and modern backdrop.
- Graphic elements on the walls, inspired by water flow and connectivity, subtly reference the company’s core mission of water distribution.
- Sleek & Minimalist Aesthetic
- A predominantly white and glass interior was chosen to enhance openness, light, and clarity, ensuring that the workspace feels both airy and contemporary.
- Glass partitions maintain visual continuity while providing privacy and sound control, allowing teams to work efficiently without feeling isolated.
- The reception area, with its curved concrete desk and bold accent wall, sets a strong first impression, blending raw industrial elements with modern sophistication.
- A Work Environment Designed for Productivity
- Comfort and functionality were top priorities, ensuring that employees have ergonomic workstations, ample storage, and collaborative spaces.
- Innovative lighting solutions, including sleek LED strips and geometric light fixtures, create a stimulating yet comfortable ambiance.
- A layout that encourages interaction while maintaining clear zoning for different work functions, optimizing workflow and efficiency.
- A Space Employees Enjoy Returning
- Beyond aesthetics, the design was crafted to enhance well-being—natural light, clean lines, and uncluttered spaces contribute to a stress-free environment.
- The goal was to create an office that employees don’t mind spending extra hours in or even returning on weekends, thanks to its comfortable yet professional atmosphere.
Final Thought
The HydroQ office is a testament to how design can elevate not just a workspace, but also the people within it. By merging brand identity with modern minimalism, functionality, and comfort, the office now serves as a hub for growth, collaboration, and efficiency, allowing HydroQ to continue its impactful work in bringing water solutions to underserved communities.
