When a fellow interior designer approached us to transform his penthouse unit at Urban Residence in Kuching, we knew the expectations would be high. The brief was clear yet left room for creative interpretation— a dedicated space for his passion for golf, a private sauna retreat, and a minimalist yet elegant design that reflects his refined taste.
Our approach was to create a cohesive living environment where functionality meets understated luxury.
Golf Enthusiast’s Personal Retreat
The golfer’s study room was meticulously designed to not only serve as a workspace but also to house his prized golfing equipment. We incorporated custom storage solutions that seamlessly blend into the minimalist aesthetic while providing easy accessibility. A large window floods the space with natural light, reinforcing a connection with nature—something every golfer appreciates.
A Spa-like Sanctuary – The Private Sauna Room
Wellness played a key role in this design. We dedicated a section of the penthouse to a custom-built sauna, creating a private retreat where the client can unwind after long days. To enhance the ambiance, we introduced a planter box system, adding a biophilic element that promotes relaxation and tranquility.
A Harmonious Living & Dining Experience
The open-plan dining and kitchen areas were designed to exude sophistication with subtle warmth. The use of textured walls, elegant paneling, and mirrored accents helped create depth and visual interest. A statement dining table anchors the space, complemented by modern, sleek furniture that balances aesthetics with comfort.
Master Suite with a Walk-In Elegance
The master bedroom was conceptualized as a private escape within the penthouse. We designed a walk-in wardrobe with mirrored walls and timber panels, creating a seamless blend of function and modern sophistication. The strategic use of reflective surfaces enhances the spaciousness of the room, while warm wood tones add a sense of intimacy.
Thoughtful Details & Cohesive Aesthetic
Throughout the unit, our design choices remained consistent—clean lines, a neutral color palette, and carefully curated materials that exude timeless elegance. The incorporation of subtle lighting details and nature-inspired elements reinforces a sense of calm and exclusivity.
The final result was a penthouse that not only met the client’s vision but also became a statement of refined simplicity and luxurious practicality.
